The
J/30 Class Southern New England District Annual Meeting will be held on
Wednesday, 15 February 2012 Thursday, February 16 2012 at the International Yacht Restoration School (IYRS) at 449 Thames St. in Newport RI. We expect to gather there at 6:30pm.
As in the past, we will be talking about the upcoming racing season, but this year we will be including the possibility of a J/30 District Championship Regatta, as well as starting the earliest planning towards the 2013 J/30 North American Championship Regatta which we will be hosting.
Because we are fortunate to have the class Chief Measurer in our district, and he will be attending, we will go over some of the discussions concerning equipment that you may have seen on the website. We can also address any technical questions you may have about the boat. So bring your questions and answers.
If you are not impressed with the meeting topics, the venue itself is worth the trip as you will be able to see inside one of the few real operating wooden boat-building schools in the world. Bill and I had the opportunity to visit it recently and it's an amazing facility. Just the smell of the wood is intoxicating. You'll see all the Beetle Cats being built by the students, and maybe we will be able to go to the back shed to see the progress of the complete rebuild of the classic 1885 schooner Coronet, which is just getting started. Check it out at
www.IYRS.org.
The IYRS is not charging us anything for hosting the meeting, but it would be nice to provide a small contribution to them for facilitating the meeting, and for the good work they do there. You'll be amazed.
So please reserve the date on your calendar now and feel free to ask a couple of your core crew to join you. We will follow up with an agenda and request for head count in a few weeks.
Wishing you safe and happy holidays,
Mark Rotsky
