When I weigh the benefits and costs, personally I just can't justify adding fixed shore power to my boat unless I was planning to run a microwave or TV or something.

I use a pigtail adapter and a quality power bar that will run a battery charger and an electric heater if I need it. I only run a charger when I need to (lights on, hanging out or if I forgot and left the master on) so i don't need to worry about becoming a pole for someone elses wayward AC current.

Why do you desire to add shore power? If you do, go with a SmartPlug. Some insurance companies give you enough credit that it pays for itself.
