I had the same problem and finally gave up on removing them because I didn't want to crack the structural ribs they sit in. But the open tubes sticking up were pretty menacing looking (especially for race crew running around in the cabin)-so one of my crew members with a talent for woodworking made me a beautiful little cocktail table to cover over the legs (it even has cutouts in it perfectly sized to hold a post race/cocktail hour Solo cup!). The other option would be to cut the legs off at the base, but that would mean you would not be able to re-install the table for cruising.
