I use a whisker pole but the max length you can use it is the same length as the spinnaker pole. I use it because it is a bit quicker to move around the foredeck and if we go with a smaller jib we can adjust the length.

I find it very hard to fly the class 163% wing on wing unless there is +10kt, the leech just flops over especially if there is any kind of chop.

This is where I think for PHRF a 150% would be an improvement. Keep the power for the upwind but lose the floppy part downwind.

Of course our strategy for taking care of a faster PHRF boats is to hang with them upwind, camp on their ass going down wind and reel them in and then roll em at the finish. Drives them crazy. Maybe your Rangers have the same strategy (-:
