When I bought my 1980 J-30 in 2000, all I got was the table! After finding out why the origional owners threw away the legs and took the table out of the boat. I eventually got enough information from this forum to decide how to use my table when I wanted to cruise instead of race. I located a local metal fabrication shop, purchased 2, 36" lengths of stainless tubing,with a 2" outside diameter. Then polished them to a smooth shiny finish,cleaned and buffed the interior of the keel fittings as well as possible. Using a marine grease inside the fittings and covering the lower 8" of the tubing, the new table legs will fit snugly but removeably from the keel fittings. As for the table, I have used drop leaf table hinges from Lowes and it works just fine, no bending of wire or trying to align the holes in the legs for the wire supports. If you want your table higher, simply get longer tubing, I spent $20 for the tubing and about that for the hinges.If the old aluminum legs were cut off at the top of the fittings, just find smaller diameter ss tubing to fit inside your fittings and wrap metal duct tape around the top to fit the table, also 2". I thought about wood, but figured it would swell up and be difficult to remove, I couldn't find teak posts anyway, that explains why it took 8 years to get around to this fix!
