As the entry coordinator of the One Design Regatta I would like to extend an invitation to all of the LIS district J/30's (and any others!) to come and race at the CPYC One Design Regatta this June. J/30's have been racing in this regatta for as long as the event has existed and this year should be no exception!! As usual we're planning dinner and entertainment on Saturday Night, free dockage for the event, a 5 ton hoist for launching your boat, beer and great racing on Long Island Sound. Last year the 6 boat J/30 fleet included North American and District Champions and got off 6 races in great breeze over 2 days. Our goal is to have even better numbers this year and it is our hope that boats will come from far and near to race at Cedar Point.

The event has a web page which we invite you to visit. The NOR and Entry Form will be available there shortly.

Thanks to our presenting sponsor Fairfield County Bank for making this event possible. I look forward to racing in the J/30 division against all of you come June.

Blue Meanie is currently planning to participate as long as a reasonable fleet is assembled. Looking forward to it!

And we want you to have an excuse to come up and sail Steve!! Nothing would make me happier than a strong out of town contingent. Any local boats that are on the fence about class racing, are new to the class or haven't traveled for a while are encouraged to race at Cedar Point this June. We could probably field a 6 boat fleet again but there's no reason that double digit numbers are out of reach. Why should the boats up Narragansett Bay have all the One Design fun?

Wes - I guess this means you aren't racing in the RI Leukemia Cup Regatta on 4 June with the party at New York YC. We expect at least seven J/30s on the line for that this year.

Sorry Bill, I have commitments to keep to Laser Beam. I hope you understand. That's a great regatta and I hope you guys manage to get an even bigger fleet of local boats this year.

The regatta organizing committee is planning on meeting at some point this weekend. As such I would like to see if anyone in the class has any questions, input or suggestions for the event committee (besides fleet size which is entirely up to you! wink ) that they would like answered or brought up. Something you thought could be improved on, something which set the regatta apart in the past which you want to see return, etc. I would be very happy to bring these with me this weekend and hopefully be able to provide feedback for you all after getting some answers.

We have also just appointed someone to author the official documents so look for them surfacing on the regatta website sometime in the near future.

So the One Design Regatta committee met back on February 19th to continue hashing out the details for the 2011 edition of the regatta. All in all the meeting led to lots of good developments which we think will help to make the regatta an even greater success in 2011. One of the big developments for the J/30 Class is that we've fixed the fee for using the 5 ton hoist to launch/haul and service your mast at $50 dollars for the whole regatta. This is good news for any out of town boats who were considering racing and wanted to come by land. We also want to show racers a better time on shore after sailing so instead of an expensive Lobster dinner there'll be an included barbecue on the lawn of the club (along with beer of course!!!) after racing on Saturday.

The sailing was good with 6 boats last year but it would be even better with a few more so if you did the regatta in 2010, missed out on a few years or just thought it looked like a fun event we would love to have you come sail!! The more J/30's on the line the better the racing will be which means more fun!! If nothing else I selfishly want the racing to be better in the class where I'll be sailing, who wouldn't?

The entry form, NOR and preliminary SI's went live a few days ago and they can be found here: www.tinyurl.com/CedarPointODR . The website also has driving directions to the club, deals on local hotels, a list of the current entries and a directory of our GREAT sponsors who are also helping to make the regatta awesome for you.

We've been working hard on the event all winter and hope that everyone has even more fun when June rolls around. Any questions can be forwarded on to the official event contact at cpycord@gmail.com.

See you on the water!

As of now, 5 entries. I'm planning to come up-will anybody else be participating from CPYC (Fat City?)?

Come on up. Fat City has raced in almost all of the past OD Regattas and you two would make 7 boats entered. I would also like to see Bluejacket and Belle Faster entered to bring the fleet number up to 9. We're planning a great regatta and we have some great new stuff lined up for the competitors. Bring it on!

Unfortunately Belle Faster will not be attending. Bad scheduling on my part.... Sounds like a blast. We will commit to the NAs!
