A question to the class,...is a J30 logo only allowed to appear on a class legal sail or can it appear on a Phrf sail as well?
If not acceptable on a Phrf sail,...what J insignia is?

I know of no limitation the prevents using the J/30 logo on non-class sail. The only limitation is the use of the sail that meets the current class rules at a class OD event.

For PHRF Lake Erie there is no penalty for sail material. So to our local PHRF, my sail fits thier definition of a class sail.
My non dacron main has the same insignia as a "class" dacron sail

For racing PHRF I don't beleive I am required to have a J/30 insignia on the sail but I am pretty sure I have to have a sail number. I don't think the number has to be of any significance other than it has to be different than everyone else that is racing in the race I enter. I have a USYRU number, some have thier hull number as thier sail number

US Sailing Rule 77 "Identification on Sails" has some details on what is required in Appendix G.

we use the same number on boat boats. Same sails. I think the only people that really care are the race committee trying to make sure they ID the right boat over the line first.

Which also raises the question at the J30 NA where we also use bow numbers, but when talking to the RC, they seem to not pay much attention to them.
