J/30 Class Association Forums J/30 Forum The Boat, Sails and Equipment Deck Painted #526

So OK ... The weather up here in NPT ... generally 50s, cloudy, rainy, foggy, windy. But TWO days in the last couple of weeks it was sunny, and allowed me to paint deck on 526.

notes:
1. did not remove any gear
2. used brush and roller ... no tray, poured paint from can.
3. used cheap 2 in. disposable brush
4. prep consisted of power washing with low end power washer from Home Depot
5. Interdeck gray 1 part and Interdeck white 3 parts with a shot+ of 333 brushing liquid per quart
6. Foredeck to chain plate has added 4 oz of silica per quart
[this is an aggressive surface]
7. Sidedecks have added 1 oz of silica per quart
8. cockpit and top of cabin straight Interdeck [difference in surfaces can be felt, but not noticable visually]
9. one coat ... allowed to dry and then cut in around cleats and stantions with tiny artist brush
10. dries in one day ... but takes at least a week to cure OK
11. takes 3 qts with some left over to touch up.

This is a duplicate program that went on #505 last Oct. in Naples and lasted quite well through the winter season. I don't think I will need to recoat on #505, but will see what tropical sun does over the summer. [I didn't get to the cockpit last Oct. as it was too warm, will do this Oct.]

touch ups are no sweat. Will recoat as needed.

The use of Interdeck was based on results by Lusty on Belle Faster where I saw his deck NA 2009. He used straight Interdeck, but I have older crew more prone to slipping and falling ... and the Gulf can get nasty with the winter wind out of the NW.

Vic - that looks good. I will stop by Pirates Cove to take a look when the sun comes out. Are you in the upper yard or by the water?
