The following was released by Waterline Systems LLC on 28 November 2012. This will help J/30 owners for long term support. Waterline Systems LLC is listed on the "Equipment & Suppliers" page under the "Market" menu above. We are working with Waterline Systems to have a J/30 support page developed.
Waterline Systems/USWatercraft LLC Acquires J/Boat Files
From the introduction of the J/24 in 1977 until about 2009, Tillotson - Pearson (TPI) and its successor company Pearson Composites built the vast majority of J/Boats. The files and records on every boat built have been inaccessible since Pearson Composites and J/Boats ended their relationship several years ago. Recently, WLS secured all of these files and records. The end result is our ability to provide "factory" service and parts for the 13,000+ J/Boats around the world. We are in the process of having them scanned, indexed, catalogued and brought into a searchable web form. We are also integrating all the bills of materials and components into our parts department and soon to be re-launched web-store.
This information will help WLS pinpoint the exact factory parts that the boat was originally built with and, more importantly, where to source it. We will be able and ready to service J/Boat owners and the majority of vintages needing repairs, specialty parts, and any requested upgrades. |
J/Boat Molds
In addition to acquiring the information, documents, and boat files from TPI, we have possession of many of the dormant J/Boat molds. We are proud to announce that WLS has secured the right from J/Boats to build parts from these original molds. Each J/Boat model requires numerous molded parts, many of which will wear out, break, or become damaged over time. Although there are other methods to repair these parts, it is best to utilize the original molds to save on cost. It also ensures that the parts will fit and operate properly.
Typically for many models, this includes items such as rudders, hatches, sea-hoods, sliding hatches, pedestals and interior parts. Access to these molds will greatly expand our capabilities to service J/Boat owners and help retain the value of the J/Boat.

- Stainless Steel fittings: bow rails, stanchions, handrails, ladders, chain plates
- Deck hardware, winches, tracks, port lights, hatches, cleats, toerails
- Interior Hardware: Latches, catches, pulls and hinges
- Floor Boards: Interior trim, bunk tops, doors, drawers, headliner panels
- Canvas: Cushions, sail covers, dodgers, lifeline covers, boat covers
- Plumbing: thru-hull fittings, hoses, heads, pumps, tanks, faucets
- Electrical: lights, panels, switches, batteries, chargers, inverters
- Mechanical: Engines, struts, propellers, controls, filters, zincs, belts
- Spars and rigging: Masts, booms, poles, sprits, running and standing rigging
Services:
- Fiberglass repair and re-coring of hulls and decks
- Gelcoat repair and re-finishing
- Awl-grip
- Hardware & rigging replacement and upgrades
- Systems repair and upgrade, Mechanical, Electrical & Plumbing
- Modifications including keel replacement, transom extension
- Interior carpentry repair and renovation.

Waterline Systems has gone live with a J/30 parts page at the following link: https://www.waterlinesystems.com/j30-parts-map/Thanks to Sarah Angell, the Waterline Systems Marketing Manager who personally went through the J/30 drawings and cross referenced parts that are currently available. Sarah has worked at other sailing hardware companies and is well versed on the various products available. Waterline can also supply custom / semi-custom parts for the J/30. If you have a need for something, contact them. They have the entire drawing set for the J/30. Don't forget that they also offer services such as bottom fairing.
