Has anyone replaced the bulbs in the copper colored cabin lights with LEDs? I tried to remove the incandescent bulbs to see the base, but could not get them out. The LED replacements for the fixtures run about $60 each.

Too funny, I too was just looking to replace with LEDs and also had trouble removing the bulb from the fixture. Do these screw out or pull out. I hesitated to apply more force as I didn't want to have the bulb break. Next step, I was planning on removing an entire fixture to take home where I could give it more focus and have better tools.

Do you have a link to what you were going to replace it with? I was hoping for a cheaper (less than $60) drop-in replacement.

I just replaced mine last weekend. they are bayonet style bulbs so you have to push and turn counter clockwise. Most of mine didn't pop out, so I hooked behind the bulb with a coat hanger and gave them a little tug and they came out quite easy.

I have lost the bookmark for the $60 light, but a quick search led me to similar style fixtures from $31 to $300(!).The $60 ones I now can't find had a frosted globe reflector.
To begin with, I plan to try some battery operated stick-ons from Amazon, which Ill use as dome lights. A friend uses a motion sensor model in the head for those 2AM visits...
In a couple of week, when back to my desktop computer, I'll do more research.

Good news, Patrick. What did you replace them with; were they as nicely bright as the originals?

I bought three different bulbs. I haven't had a chance to check them in the dark, but I will this weekend and I will let you know.

Charlie - did you notice any change in "color" that makes it harder to read, etc? I've heard some folks complain that the narrow wavelength of the light from the LEDs is harder on the eyes.

I like the idea of the lower current. The cabin lights when all on are the single largest load I have - confirmed with the meter on my new electrical panel. I hit about 7.5 amp discharge with all lights on. I compare that to the new Windex light installed with an LED bulb that takes only 90 milliamps!
