After taking up the floor and vermiculite, the time has come to get into the nitty gritty of glass work and re-coring. Trying to cut back the old, poorly done sump repair I quickly found myself into a spot of damp, rotten core. I think I've found my way all the way around it (in the future I will be more careful with my cutting wheel and get any remaining spots from the outside).

Now I'm thinking about adding the new core and glassing over, is anybody familiar with type of epoxy resin and type of glass used? I've counted what looked like 1 standard layer of glass and 4 of roving, does this seem right? Thanks for any help with this one.

I am just wrapping up doing Rhapsody behind the keel from the bottom. I believe the layup schedule you list is correct. Did you find one side wetter than the other? The stbd side core was saturated and port side just damp.

Below is a picture similar to the area you show from the top, recored from the bottom, after building up the area I ground out in the center that had saturated and damaged glass from a grounding that must have occurred early in the boat's life. The glass had turned black there and when the boat was on the hard occasionally would weep. I also recored outside this area so the entire area was dry and has a strong area to spread the load, rather than just the small area ground out. The seam at the keel to hull joint was ground out and filled with thickened epoxy for a smooth transition.

That's starting to look like a $4500 yard job.

That seems to be my situation exactly. I finished up most of the inside work re-coring tonight and will be doing a lot of re-coring and glassing behind the keel from the outside just like your example. I haven't broken into the starboard side yet but I expect to find something similar. I used some marine ply I had handy to re-core the space (not the fancy balsa replacement endgrain stuff but that's how it's done in Maine) and the layup is setting up now.

I have a space heater keeping the cabin warm-ish, it's still hitting mid thirties at night around here. Next angle of attack is around and behind the keel and from the outside.

I'm thinking of drilling holes to distinguish where to begin on the outside?
