This is a notice that the J/30 Board of Governors will hold a teleconference meeting on Sunday 1 June 2014, 7-8:30pm East Coast time. A message was sent to the BOG members with the dial in information and the meeting agenda.

If any J/30 owners have items they would like discussed, please contact your district governor.

BOG Phone Conference Meeting Agenda:

The following standard BOG agenda topics were covered.

Brief update by each of District Governors
Southern New England - Mark Rotsky reported that the district held its annual meeting/social at North Sails in Portsmouth, RI in April. There has been some boat turnover with about the same number of boats in the district as last year. The SNE Region Open Regatta scheduled for 19/20 July has 8 boats registered so far.

Long Island Sound - John McArthur reported that this weekend the Cedar Point OD regatta J/30 Class had 6 boats registered and 5 at the line was won by Fat City (Carl Sherter), Smiles (John's boat) in 2nd place and Dow Jones (Seth Shepard) in 3rd place. Raritan YC will host a OD regatta the weekend after 4th of July. Steve Buzbee has joined John as the LIS Co-Governor and will work a transition in a timeline that suits John and Steve. Welcome Steve to the Board of Governors.

Northern New England - Luke Buxton reported that there has been some migration of boats out of the Boston area to Maine, and that Buzzards Bay in the SNE district have gained some boats. There is a project boat for sale on Craigs list from the Boston Sailing Center and a 2nd boat for sale in Gloucester. The NNE district is planning to host the 2015 NAs "south of the border" at the Beverly YC in Marion on Buzzards Bay.

Chesapeake - Pam Morris reported that the NOOD Regatta had 9 boats participate won by Bob Rutsch in Bebop. Weds night Annapolis series has 10 boats. The Leukemia Cup had 6 boats and was won by Ron Anderson in Insatiable. Tim Richards the former Chesapeake District Treasurer sold his boat Leap Frog and turned over the Treasurer responsibilities to Ron Anderson. Pam will send Bill Kneller the new owner information for Leap Frog and KVACK so the class database can be updated.

Carolinas - Randy Boyles reported that the boats are scattered between inland lakes and the coast. Randy is making an effort to coordinate 2015 coastal events.

Gulf Coast - Casey Grimm indicated that boats were distributed between the north and south shore of Lake Ponchartrain and the Gulf resulting in about 4-5 boats on the line at the various regatta including the Mardis Gras and Midwinter regatta. Two boas are for sale - Gritz and Rambunctious.

Eastern Great Lakes - Dan Mather indicated there was a new boat in Oswego with 4 boats and he hoped to get 1 or 2 more to travel for OD starts. There is a 10-12 July event with multiple races in the Eastern Yachting Circuit and Sail Oswego regatta. This includes a low cost $250 for launch, mast step/unstep for boats that trailer.

Other Districts Not Attending - Don Mille from Pacific NW indicated that he is looking for a replacement as Governor since he will be purchasing a cruising boat. There are a couple of candidates he has identified. Shawn Ivie from California District indicates there are two boats racing in his area and boats scattered along the CA Coast.

J/30 Dues status
The class has 26 paid members for 2014, down from last year. A suggestion was made that an email reminder be sent out. Bill Kneller indicated that he would work with Dave Erwin and have a reminder sent to those who have not paid dues.

Class Association finance status
Bill Kneller reported for Carl Sherter with the financial statement posted in the BOG forum section. The balance as of 31 May is $15,528.83 including some funds held for SNE, Chesapeake and Gulf Coast. The class has no cost accounts with Navy Federal Credit Union and PayPal (Paypal fee charged on per transaction basis). The plan is for Dave Erwin to open a no cost account at the bank he works for if we can't identify someone else who could be treasurer and is eligible for membership in Navy Federal Credit Union. This would be done before the BOG meeting at the NAs in September.

2014 J/30 North American Planning Status
John McArthur indicated that 10 boats were registered to date, including 2 that will trailer from out of area. His goal is to have 20 boats for the event. Planning is proceeding well with the NOR posted and website live. The NAs will be held at Cedar Point YC, Westport CT 11-14 September.

2015 NA Planning
The Northern New England District will host the 2015 NAs. Beverly YC in Marion, MA was approached after Hull YC indicated they did not have sufficient facilities to host the event. The Beverly YC has three J/30s that are local to them and will help with the organizing. The dates confirmed by Beverly YC immediately after the close of the BOG meeting 17-20 Sept 2015.

2016 NA Planning
It is expected that the Chesapeake District will host the NAs in 2016. Pam Morris indicates that Eastport YC would probably be the host. This will be firmed up with dates and reported by the Sept BOG meeting.

Chief Measurer report
Charlie Stoddard indicated there were no rules changes pending and there was nothing to report.

Scheduling of next meeting at Cedar Point YC on Thursday 11 September 2014 (NA Host Club)
John McArthur has the action to coordinate the scheduling of the next BOG meeting within the schedule of the 2014 NAs on Thursday 11 September. This will be announced on the forum well be for the NAs so people can plan to either be there or call in.

New Business
Bill Kneller reported that the class now has Burgee Program insurance. This means that loaner boats are covered at all class events. There is a $250 deductible on the loaner boats. That fee is only paid if there is an insurance claim. Typically the regatta organizers will collect the fee in advance, and return the check after the regatta if there is no claim. Dave Erwin will administer the policy. If a district needs loaner boat coverage, they need to coordinate with Dave to fill out a simple form showing the boat loaned, its owner, and the person who is sailing the boat.
