where did you get the spreader reinforcement kit and is it difficult to install? what should we watch out for in installation?
I see this as preventative measure..I have no need of repair at this time.

Don't be so sure that you don't need the fix without a thorough inspection. There is much to be hidden behind the spreader mounting plates. I had rivets that were stretched, but more importantly, where the rivets were anchored cracks in the mast that were not visible until the spreader mounting bracket was removed.

I had the work done by Hall Spars in Bristol, RI. They picked up the mast where I pulled the boat for winter storage (15 minutes from Hall Spars) and did the work over the winter (2004-5). Corey Butlin @ Hall Spars owns a J/30 and he was my POC. Here is contact info so you can check to see if they will sell you the parts and instructions.
