I'm looking at a J30 that has moisture in the transom. There are blisters at the exhaust.
How is the transom constructed? Does it go to solid glass at the edges or is it possible for water to migrate from the transom down through the hull?

Thanks for the reply. I hauled a boat today that has some moisture in the transom (there are quite a few blisters around the exhaust port), but a sounding does not indicate any delamination in the hull.
Of course, there's significant delam around the through-hulls, but that's another topic.

That engine exhaust is probably the bane of J/30s. On my boat (#205), it was simply an aluminum pipe stuck through the cored transom. A little bedding trown around the edges to keep water out. Not very effective at that.
I've removed the aluminum tube and replaced it with a proper HEAVY brass exhaust, removed the soaked core around it, and filled with epoxy. Water WILL NOT get into the core from that hole anymore.
