As far as my electric bilge pump goes, the discharge hose goes towards the front of the bilge, then up under the port settee. It goes right along the inside of the settee, through the cabinet under the sink, then through the quarter berth and out the back. It was there when I bought the boat, and works great. The one thing is I had to install a check valve so that when it shut off, extra water in the hose didn't come back into the bilge.

I can confirm that #337 ('81) has the same arrangement for the electric bilge pump hose that Scott mentioned. I have what looks like a check valve under the sink, too.
So now I'm really confused. The spaces under the two quarterberths are interconnected under the engine. If water gets in there, HOW is it supposed to drain into the bilge????

On #521 it appeared as if the Whale pump hose was molded into the vermiculate at TPI. To address the inability of the accumulated water from the quarterberth limbers and the engine pan limbers to drain to the bilge, the Whale hose was cut as short as possible as the same access hole described by Clint Pickett (with #27) would allow - after which the area below all pans and liners could drain to the bilge and any water collection could also be monitored. The Whale pump was re-plumbed through the limbers below the port settee' berth, albeit with a reduced hose diameter and with two 90-degree elbows inserted into the run of the intake hose. So ultimately, the bilge pump hose plumbing suffered some performance-robbing restrictions in the interest of preventing water collection / buildup in the area under the engine pan and aft of the vermiculate supporting the cabin sole, a situation which I understand from some old forum threads could lead to some expensive-to-repair structural degradation in a crtical area.

I still have a operable hand bilge pump in the cockpit which is connected to the bilge by the large hose running through the engine compartment. I also desired to have a automatic electric bilge pump. I routed my electric bilge pump hose through the port setee then forward of the bulkhead. From there the hose made a loop up to the deck then back down to exit the port hull just below the gunwales. The loop hopefully keeps the water from siphoning in if capsized. the only criticizm is that when the pump shuts off, the backflow is about six ounces or so. I use the water witch type switch that has no moving parts- just two electrodes which close the circuit when water touches them. Clint Pickett- Hull #27
