Called Rig-Rite today and they actually took my order over the phone. Hopefully this means they are going to continue to be around.

We'll use your order as a benchmark. In 2004 it took me 4 months to get a mast boot that was "in stock". The clock is ticking. Let us know when you get your order.

Hey guys, I just bought a J30 and the mast boot is marginal at best. What are my options for getting a new one? Is Rig Right the only option. I am a new keel boat owner. I have been a laser and lightning sailor for years, and I finally got the cash to move up.

I have heard of people using cut inner tubes wrapped around and then large hose clamps (Westmarine has huge ones) to hold the top around the mast and the bottom around the lip of the partners.

There is no reason the generic mast boot from Defender or WestMarine would not work either. These do the major coverup, but you will also need to squeeze some silicon in the sailtrack just above the boot and get some mast boot tape and wrap the whole thing really well. That should be all you need.

Just a note to let everyone know about a conversation that I had with Kim at Rig-Rite. I called to get a ferule to fix an elongated hole where the main-sheet bail attached to the boom. Here's what I learned from the conversation.

1. Rig-Rite no longer has the pickup location in Warwick, RI. Since the fire, they now just work mail order and ship from 4 locations.

2. Rig-Rite does not use email for correspondence - they prefer phone calls and fax using the information from the Rig-Rite website

3. They have updated their web site with content. After speaking with Kim, it was apparent that there are "repair" parts available.

4. Kim steered me to a Vang Reinforcement Sleeve, Internal Stiffener 3' long on the J/30 page that can be used to strengthen the boom at a common failure point - the vang attachment located on this page

5. Kim steered me to a Boom Bail Bearing Plate for 3/8" Bolt: K-2172RP on the Boom Bail page. Boom Bail Bearing Plates are used to reinforce the boom wall, spreading the load of a single bolt attachment out over a greater area and increasing the bearing surface by using additional fasteners. Used with Standard (Pivoting) Boom Bails, they reinforce this most highly loaded part of the Boom and are especially critical on bolts for Vang Bails. Please Note that the larger Reinforcing Plates can be used with Flange Bushings (and a smaller Bolt) to achieve the same strength with maximum weight reduction. These are located on this page. I'm doing this because the hole in the boom for the bail has elongated over time.

6. Rig-Rite was unaware that the J/30 Class allowed Carbon spinnaker poles. Expect that Rig-Rite will be updating their web site to offer class legal spinnaker pole, both traditional and carbon.

An update to let everyone know that I had a good experience with Rig-Rite over the past week. Ordered on Monday and received that parts via UPS on Friday. Kim wrote a nice note and put a dollar bill in the package because his new office person over charged shipping by $1.00 - I wouldn't have noticed if he hadn't done that.

I'd recommend them for anyone who needs parts.

They have a website but no email adress. The website does not show prices. It's very strange... if you want to have a price, you must send a form by fax !!

And I just want to know the price and ask if a part is compatible with J30...

So... I made the effort, I send the fax... and... no answer !

Does anyone know if they are still in business, or they are closed ?
