Also in Lake Erie, also $250 deductible, $250 from Allstate. No survey required, had same insurance on my previous boat. I don't even mind that the policy says it's a 1985 "Jay Boat".

Hey, we are looking for J/30 insurance. Any suggestion changes since last year?

Bob what did you end up doing for insurance?

David - It's great news that this post gets resurrected by you. Will this be Zephyr, Son of Zephyr, Zephyr's Clone or something else? I still have my insurance with Amica with the link and info posted in the thread above still the same. My guess is that you won't see the same rates in NOLA, but you'll need to check with them.

Harley,
I used to have Seashore Insurance who was underwritten by St. Pauls. Premium was ~ $400 per year. After the storm, the informed me that they would not write policies in the Gulf Coast. They will write policies elsewhere.

I too found it hard to get my boat insured at a reasonable price in New Orleans. I ended up with Progressive Insurance (yes the car company). The offered insurance for $500 per year. Downside is that they limit the coverage to $20K. Not happy, but the alternative was coverage in the $1500-$1800 range.

Owners, Please continue to post updates on insurance companies. I found that in the Gulf Coast, its market has become extremely tight (similar to housing insurance).

Dave,

I went with Progressive. Boat US will write but they are a couple bundred dollars more expensive. Dave H. insured his '84 Jenneau with Zurich.

Progressive wll only insure boats older than 15 years to $20,000, so I also plan to do some more shopping. They do not require a survey and my premium is just over $700/yr.

I'll do some digging in the morning to see if I can find my Boat US quote.

The age of our boats and the fact that we're in New Orleans really limits insurance options.

I just insured our J30 in New Orleans, at the tune of $1650 a year for full coverage with Boat US for only up to $20,000 coverage. No one else would give comprehensive coverage, it could be me or probably that the boat is kept in New Orleans. A survey was required!

Neil,

Go with Progressive man! It's half that and it has the same coverage.
