Jason - how large are they and what CAD format are they in? I can host them and put a link here for anyone to download.

I asked persmission from Harley who (provided me with these files) he has no problem with having them on this site.

So the file is in AUTOCAD and is about 193KB in size. So the next question is....how do we get the file on the site...is that something you can do Bill?

Ok Folks,

I glassed the new balsa wood back onto the rudder and then glassed the old skin back into it's original position. Both sides from the waterline down are complete.

I built a rudder template (using the rudder plans on the site) and started checking how fair my rudder was. At the thickest point of the rudder I had to take a layer of glass off one side...not so bad....but the other side I completly ground off the skin so that it's so thin I'm going to half to rebuild that side again.

So what gives? Any thoughts? All I can say is that when I put the rudder back together again everything fit like it did before. Has anyone had experience fairing their rudder...if so how much trimming was required?

Jason sent me the Autocad file that Harley Nethken "Land Shark" developed for the Keel. I'll post it here and also create a new posting so in the future people can easily find it without an extensive search.

For those following along I updated the blog with my progress on templating the rudder.

Anyone ever just drilled/filled the holes oversized and replaced/resealed bolts, similar to the topsides hardware?
If my rudder wasn't saturated I would assume this could keep future water out.
(Jason, do you think this would be a worthwhile preventive maintenance step? Or just a waste of time)

That's what my plan was this winter, but it turns out I didn't need to do anything. I drilled into the core and all was dry. The holes in the rudder had already been epoxy sealed, so there was no water infiltration.
