I recommend hand rails for safety reasons. In June I installed some stainless steel rails which were made by Tops in Quality. Here is a photo:



We also used the new Harken deck organizers. I'll send photos soon. We changed the angle of the sheet stoppers but not the position of the winches. I strongly recommend sticking with the original position and one design compliance.

How much did the new handrails set you back ?

I'll second both the "stay one design compliant" and the stainless handrails.

Nice mast Dave! What's the rig tension on the e-string?

I like those rails. I assume "Tops-In-Quality" will know what I'm referring to if I order them.
I still intend on leaving the 10's off the cabintop, and rerouting the lines.

No one is gonna pass up my boat, if it's for sale, because they have to make some minor adjustments to race one design. The rebuild and condition of the core and upgraded equipment would seal the deal.
Plus I'm in Hawaii and the only J30(assumption), so there isn't a strong J30 race crowd anyway.

Do you still have the teak interior hand rails in place ?

No they were trashed because i found some termites. I know they are a requirement for offshore races. I wouldn't have a problem with replacing them. I still don't like wood though.

I don't think I mentioned it but I ordered a garhaur stand-up block, to replace the mastbase block for my main halyard. The original had much damage due to the original wire halyard grooving out the sheave and housing, to the point of seriously chafing the rope halyard. I don't want to comprimise the integrity of the mast by drilling out the old rivits and mounting a new one. Plus an OEM replacement is like $200. I'm just mounting the block on the deck close to the mast. I tried to research this and besides taking up space and not keeping the halyard as low as the mastbase block would, does anyone know why this would be a bad idea, before I mount it?

Mango, not to be too blunt, but all of us have been working really hard to make all OD boats as close to the same as possible. So our minds are focused on this goal.

I know that you race PHRF, but someday if you get ready to sell, PLEASE keep everything in case the next sailor want to restore her to the original configuration.

If ever in New Orleans, please look us up. I am 100% OD compliant - except for my spinnaker LOL. when I get more $$$ I'll purchase a OD spinnaker. My spinnaker has a logo which is not currently allowed by the class.

David - I think that spinnaker uncloaked your invisible mast.
