Has anyone replaced the Yanmar "B" panel wtih the Mack Boring 278 panel? The Mack catalogue indcates that "modified senders are required". Is this a big operation?

I've still got the old Yanmar panel, functional but cracked. Just curious - what is the cost difference for the Mack Boring 278 Panel vs the Yanmar Panel? Oldport Marine in Newport has the Yanmar panel on the shelf so I know it is readily available. I would think the cost of replacing the sensors for the Mack Boring panel would negate any cost savings, if any.

Replacing sensors is no big deal. Oil pressure, water temp and tach sender just screw into the casting. I replaced the temp sending unit this past winter because I cracked the ceramic top unscrewing the electrical terminal. What you may find is the wire harness and boots that slip over the terminals are hard and no longer flexible.

I remember looking into the cost of buying a new Yanmar panel and nearly passed out.

It is just a piece of plastic, a couple of parts one could get for no more than a few bucks each at Radio Shack, and a single dial gauge. It shouldn't be that expensive.

We ended up simply repairing the panel with Radio Shack parts. However, if your panel is cracked, that might not be as much of an option.

I replaced the Yanmar panel 2 years ago. The plastic panel only and gasket, from local Yanmar dealer was about $24. I also replaced the toggle switch for about $30.

Mack Boring panel 278, their substitute for the Yanmar B panel, retails for $268.

The best price I could find for the Yanmar b panel is $480.
