I guess I have the benefit of having Benz as my local sail maker.

What about ordering all North products except the main from the local contact. Purchase the J/30 main directly from the New Orleans loft?

David Bows and I had similar experiences last year trying to work with our local North lofts. I bought a main, #1 & spinnaker through the RI loft. My local guy and I both tried to work getting Benz's design. My sails were "Made in Sri Lanka" and are not Benz's design, even though my paper work says I ordered a Benz designed sail.

I just ordered a new carbon #3 to replace the original bag I've been using... it's from Thurston Sails in RI (Quantum). I almost went with a ZSails design that I saw when I sailed on John McArthurs boat (Smiles) at the Annapolis NAs. Chris Zaleski, the sail maker was part of the crew. I was impressed with Chris's knowledge and his design. I also got a quote from Steve Thurston on the Kevlar blade that Falcon has been kicking butt with in heavy air (he quoted it in Kevlar & Carbon). Both ZSails and Quantum pricing was very competitive (better than North), but I elected to go with the loft that was closer for support.
