Looking for guidance on refinishing:
1)veneer on chain plate bulkheads (water damage from leaking plates)
2)water damage to shelves above main cabin berths
3)water damage to several ash ribs above main cabin berths

Any help or guidance is much appreciated.

MArk,
I redid the wood work on Phantom 2 years ago. One side I completely removed because som of it was rotten. It's not difficut to get out. Most of it is oak. The other side I did in place, just lightly sanded and coated with polyurethane.
Most of the stuff is vennered plywood so don't be to aggressive with the sanding.

Thanks

did you need to sand down the entire piece, e.g. all of the bulk head panel? It would seem that you would need to as the finish appears to be a honey/golden finish. If you did not there would be a difference in the part sanded/refinished and the remaining part of panel.

You can also purchase a fabric-backed / paper-backed veneer and apply it over the existing finish and then re-finish it
Look for either SanFoot by ?? or for ExecutiveWood by S.R.Wood of Louisville, KY
Often available thru major wallcovering distributors
refered to as flexible veneers
ask for riff-cut or quarter-cut White Oak and/or Ash samples and select whichever matches best

I am rebuilding Hull 387. I stripped the floor and refinished. The Starboard side settee was rotten, removed it and rebuilt. Port port side just sanded and refinished with polyurethane. All the ash I stripped down to its natural state and refinished with poly. It looks great now. The foward walls I sanded down making sure not to sand through the veneer. Where ther was water damage I removed the damage and replaced with veneer. Was close enough that you do not notice the repair. While I had everything apart I painted all fiberglass with a fresh coat of brightsides to give it a fresh look, fresh smell and to make easier to keep clean in the future. Go to
Robert McClemens on facebook for picture of the refit of hull 387. Currently rebuilding the v-bert head area.
