roger, roger then ... all tricks allowed ... which should be the case for skippers close to 70. with novice crew.

by the way I will attempt to video the start plus the hoist mark ... Rhapsody already knows that my distance judgement is off by 6 inches ... I have promised not to hit him again as long as he keeps clear. We play a bit rough down here in NPT for you guys coming down for real sailing.

Actually, We may be given a OD start since we have 6 boats registered. I'll contact Brad Dellenbaugh and see what is planned for the J/30s.

I just spoke to Danielle at the NYYC race office. J/30s will have their own OD start. The SI will be issued "just in time"....

She indicated the race course will be setup similar to last year. Start by Rose Island, long distance leg to windward,downwind to a mark past starting line, turning mark and finish to windward.

Where do we go with a southerly, out of the bay?

That's what I think. Maybe out to where Brenton Tower used to be, (past the Dunkin donuts....)

We'll have to see what the SI says when it is issued "just in time"....

Here is what was in last year's SI

8 THE COURSES
Special courses will be designated using buoys as described on the 2009-2012 South Bay Race Chart provided at registration and attached to these sailing instructions. (Note: Predetermined courses from the back of the South Bay Race Chart will not be used.)

• a) The Race Committee will list the marks on a white board in the order to be rounded and the required side to leave the mark using the designations on the 2009-2012 South Bay Race Chart.
• b) Special Mark "U"
  • The Race Committee may add an inflatable first mark to any course by displaying flag "U".
  • If "U" is used, there will be either a Green or Red flag displayed below "U" to designate the direction to be rounded. Mark "U" is to be rounded either to STARBOARD (Green flag below "U"), or to PORT (Red flag below "U").
  • Special Mark "U" will be positioned approximately 0.5 NM to windward from the RC signal boat.
  • Mark "U" will be an inflatable YELLOW tetrahedron buoy.
• c) The course will be:
  • Start
  • Special Mark "U" if used
  • Round the marks in the designated order leaving each mark to the designated side
  • Finish
• d) The finishing mark will be on the opposite side of the Race Committee Signal Boat from the starting mark.

9 MARKS

9.1 Mark "U", if used, will be an inflatable YELLOW tetrahedron buoy. The starting mark will be an inflatable YELLOW tetrahedron buoy. The finishing mark will be an inflatable ORANGE tetrahedron buoy.

9.2 Special NYYC Temporary Inflatable Race Marks 16 and 17 as designated on the 2009-2012 South Bay Race Chart, if used, will be inflatable ORANGE tetrahedron buoys. Mark 16 is located at 41º 33.000' N; 071º 21.333' W north of Gould Island near Conanicut Island. Mark 17 is located at 41º 33.000' N; 071º 19.000' W north of Gould Island
toward Aquidneck Island.

Pretty standard program with S wind will be to run out to Brenton R4 "J" or R2 "K" and spin back up East Passage. No way we can go any further south if we start at Rose and want to make it back in time to get ready for dinner. that will be a solid 2+ hour race in good wind. and with this regatta ... dinner is everything. high tide at 3:40 will slow things down upwind. In light wind ... coin toss.

Just reminding everyone that the skippers meeting is on the official schedule from 5-6:30pm on Friday at the NYYC sailing center. If it is anything like last year, you just hand in your signed crew waiver form and pick up your skipper bag.
