For those that haven't noticed, I jumped into the J 30 one design pool with both feet and a cement block tied to my legs; trailer, truck, sails, crew - we'll be there wherever they're held.
Regardless, if the Association is looking for places to hold nationals, I'll throw the North Cape Yacht Club hat in the ring. We have a great deal of experience hosting one design national events. Last year our club was awarded the
US Sailing "One Design Yacht Club of the year". In 2012 the J 35 Nationals were held at NCYC. This coming year we will host the Tarten 10 Nationals. In recent history we hosted the Hobie 33, Catalina 22, Lightnings, Thistles, and Highlander Nationals.
Our pedigre also includes some outstanding sailors. Among otheres, we are home to Anna Tunnicliffe, 2008 Olympic Gold medalist; 2008, 2009, 2010 & 2011 Rolex woman Sailor of the Year and Skip Diebold. Skip has won numerous national titles in varios small boats and Tarten 10's and recently won
US Sailing Champion of Champions.
If there is one drawback it is that we might only attract 3-5 local boats; local boats include 2-3 from Cleveland, one from Sandusky, mine + maybe 1 or two from Detroit. Most however are PHRF configured.
On the positive side, we are about 3 hours trailer ride from the east side of Lake Michigan. I have a trailer that I would offer and I'm sure, with others we could coordinate a boat transfer program to get East Lake Michigan, Chicago and Milwaukee boats from the shore of eastern Lake Michigan to our club. Rochester, Buffalo and even Toronto boats are 3-4 days by sail but less than a day's drive by trailer
Our club is fully behind this. As a member of our Club Bridge, immediately upon my return from New Orleans I was asked when we would be hosting the J 30 nationals here.
