I added an electric pump to the bilge, but routed the tubing into the port settee, then into the galley cabinet. It went all the way to the top of the cabinet along side of the sink, then down to a tee in the sink drain line. The sink drain (as long as it is not plugged) acts as a siphon break, and the loop above the bottom of the sink made a check valve unnecessary. The little electric bilge pumps and float switches have limited lifespans, and I got sick of buying new ones and just went back to using the hand pump in the cockpit after a few years.
