Conundrum is hull #484 built in 1984 and is one of the small number of cockpit/cabin transition J/30s that combines the revised style cockpit with the fantastic 6 berth cabin. We have owned and raced her since 2021. She is an amazing J/30. Is equipped for Category 3 races, has a great inventory of race gear, and also some clever cruising accessories.

Conundrum is set up with all controls leading to the cockpit. A two channel headsail foil with a Harken roller furler is easily convertible to “race modes” by removing components. All of the on-deck teak was replaced with stainless or aluminum components. Tack-Tic wireless, Raymarine 2000+ auto tiller, Standard Horizon radio, a fantastic stereo, digital 3-axis network compass, Harken windward sheeting car, Plastimo race compasses, many cruising/delivery sails, Yanmar 2GM, and more. Classic 80s racer/cruiser.
Conundrum always brought us home safe, often carrying some sort of trophy. She’s been written about twice on the J Boat website (maybe more like blurbed about, but we still thought it was awesome!). Crew had a lot to do with it but here’s how she did in some Lake Michigan races:
