John McArthur (Smiles) had a new rudder fabricated and brought it to the Annapolis NAs for the Board of Governors to inspect. Physically, it looks identical to the stock J/30 Class rudder since it was built from templates. It is lighter though. There is an action for a Naval Architect to analyze the impact of rudder weight and determine if there should be a specification before approving the replacement rudder as an alternate source to one fabricated by TPI.
