To finish off this topic, last spring I ended up having the clutch, transmissioin, reversing gear, whatever you want to call it, rebuilt. The only parts that ended up being replaced in my unit were the drive cone and seals. Total cost $869 including shipping from Portland to Seattle and back. Shifting is now solid and smooth.
