Clint, your measurements sound way too short. Remember your need TWICE the distance from the deck to the upper mast block, plus the distance from the base of the mast back to the winch, plus the extra needed for handling. Take a look at the following article from this site. The table shows 102 ft. for the main halyard and 81 ft. for the headsail halyards. You can find it on the "Info" tab at the home page. It lists all the running and standing rigging for the J/30
