After years of using mast boot tape I did a version of this:
Ocean Navigator: A practical mast boot
Takes two properly sized stainless hose clamps which you can get at most hardware stores. Instead of truck tire innertube I cut up a piece of sunbrella fabric found in a boatyard dumpster. Three months and no signs of leaking.
