J/30 Board of Governor Meeting / Phone Conference
Thursday 1 October 2009, 5-6pm East Coast time:


The J/30 Board of Governors held a meeting / phone conference coincidental with the 2009 NAs at Cedar Point YC.

Meeting Agenda:

1. Call to Order (Carl Sherter & John McArthur)
The meeting was called to order with the attendance per the list below

2. Class Association finance status & overview (Carl Sherter)
61 members paid dues. Annual expenses were reported including $150 US Sailing dues, $750 Sailing World Advertising, $700 payback to Gulf coast fleet, and $1600 J/30 NA trophies. Carl will provide a report that includes the bank balance via separate email.


3. Brief update by each of District Governors
Reports were made from all districts present. Some districts reported that there was not enough critical mass of J/30s in one location/area to hold one design events. There were some good ideas passed around and it was agreed that the discussion should take place on the forum.

4. Future dates for J/30 North American Championships
  • 2010 Marblehead, MA (August 6-8)
  • 2011 Annapolis, MD (September 16-18)
  • 2012 New Orleans, LA - date TBD based on discussion on the forum
5. Election of Class Officers
The following officers were elected to serve starting after the 2009 North Americans - Class co-presidents Bill Kneller & Dave Erwin, Treasurer - Carl Sherter, Class Measurer - Larry Christy to continue and work with a new person to be appointed by the class co-presidents for an orderly transition over time. The BOG will vote to confirm this person. Governor at Large - Dennis Bartley elected, and Bob Rutsch agreed to continue in this role.

6. Other business
The new website for communications and ease of update was discussed by Dave Erwin. He indicated that we need to get inputs from all the district to post stories and relevant material to help promote interest in the class.
