Hey Everyone -- last year I purchased Simply Sailing and brought her from Newport, RI to NYC.

This winter, my wife and I are relocating to the greater Salem/Marblehead area and, as luck would have it, I will be sailing the boat back to New England from NYC this spring (hopefully!).

I am wondering where some other people keep their J/30's in the area. Also, any recommendations or suggestions would be most appreciated!

Thanks much and Cheers!

Brian

Hey Brian - that is excellent you are moving to the area. Are you going to be in Marblehead or Salem or have you not decided yet?

They are scattered between Marblehead and Salem. The waiting list for a mooring M'head harbor is about 15 years so get your name on the list. However you can get a mooring in Salem no problem. Luke Buxton (Evelyn) may also have some good suggestions on the Salem side.

Let me know when you are around we can get together.

David

Hi Dave --

I haven't made any decisions. My wife and I are moving to Peabody. Although Salem is closer, we certainly wouldn't rule out Marblehead.

I was hoping for something a little sooner than 15 years...perhaps I'll look a little closer at Salem!

Thanks much, I'll let you know when we're in the area (the move is next week).

Cheers,
Brian

hi Brian,
Great to hear another j-30 is coming to the area. In the Boston vacinity we have about 6 active racers and 6-8 boats that cruise etc. As for moorings, Brewers yacht yard took over Hawthorne cove and they have about 200 moorings for rent, I do not know if launch service is included in the price. Also on the Marblehead side of Salem Harbor there is Midharbor marine, They have a website (do not know the web address). They sell, rent, service moorings and provide a launch service. As for prices I do not know that. There are some clubs around in Marblehead THe Boston, Marblehead yacht club, Eastern and Corinthian. In Salem Palmers Cove yacht Club, Salem Willows. In Beverly the Jubilee Yacht club. We race thursday nights with the Jubilee Yacht club(wed is non-spin, thursday spins). Also we have a class at the Nood regatta and are trying to get some more OD events in the region. Any more questions my number 978-590-7074. I have to admitt what a week to move here. possible snow storm sun/ monday. Where did you sail in New York. I grew up sailing on the Great South Bay.

Thanks much for all of the info, I greatly appreciate it. I'll look into all of those options. I was thinking that it would be nice to join a club, particularly one with a few other J-30's. But I wouldn't count out the public option.

We're moving next Thursday, hopefully the weather will be cleared up by then.

I sailed on the Hudson River as a kid -- Chelsea Yacht Club, north of Newburgh, south of Poughkeepsie. This past summer, I kept the boat in New York Harbor at the 79th Street Boat Basin.
