For those planning to participate in this event, let me urge you to schedule some extra days to enjoy Chicago. We just participated in the Chicago NOOD and then left our boat in Chicago for a week since we had a port-to-port race to our home port in Waukegan the following Saturday. Thus we were able to use our boat as a motel room for far less than the cost in the big city. We stayed at the brand new Du Sable Marina which is right downtown and very secure. (Reservations advised).
Some of the things we did - just by walking -no taxi's involved.
* Navy Pier (like Baltimore inner harbour) - shops, food and live entertainment
* Walk and tour of Shedd Aquarium - The Field Museum and Adler Planetarium are also within walking distance
* River walk ( there are also river boat tours - one specializing in architecture which we had done previously)
* live theater - we actually saw an adult puppet show
* restaurants
Many more activities are available for the adventuous.
If you want to schedule more sailing, here is a suggested schedule:
August 17-19 -Verve Cup hosted by Chicago YC.
August 23-26 - J30 NA's
Sept. 1-2 - Waukegan PHRF and one-design Championships
