The J/30 Class has received an invitation from the Storm Trysail Club ( STC) to have a one design class at Block Island Race Week (BIRW) in 2013 for its 25th anniversary. STC is the BIRW organizing authority. Here is a link to the Block Island Race Week site. Please post here with any comments if there is interest for having a class start. This is one month before the scheduled 2013 J/30 North Americans hosted by Barrington YC.

Any chance for a loaner out there... or would we have to bring our own?

You can count Magan in for a great week of racing. It's a bit far off, but was planning on doing the race PHRF regardless.

Racing a J30 One Design at Block Island Race Week has been on my bucket-list for a long time. There was a great class for J30s when the boats were new in the early eighties. I would not completely rule out racing PHRF (with a Dacron main) but One Design would be my first choice.
Maybe the Southern New England Fleet could work out a deal for storing or harboring some traveling J30s for the month between BIRW and the Barrington NA in 2013?

Like John, Block Island Race Week has always been an event I've been interested in sailing. Never been ashore there, just sailed past on the way to or from Newport. Looking through old J/Journals, six J/30s sailed in IOR in 1979. Twenty-two raced one design in 1980, including Fat City, though given the even year that would be the 'other' BIRW.

If there is some serious interest from teams down South, out West or from the Great Lakes that want to experience one of the last great race weeks in the US, I am happy to host a split team aboard Magan. I can supply a crew of 3 to 4 and you bring 3 to 4 with you and we will have a blast. Only expense will be to share food and lodging on the island and your own travel expenses. Just let me know. I might be able to help organize a few loaners from the area as well.
Bob or Dennis, if this helps either of you make the trip, I would be happy to welcome you aboard.
