J/30 Class Association Forums J/30 Forum Events and Scheduling Rhode Island summer regatta?

Is this going to happen? Dates? The 3 NJ J/30's would be interested in coming up.

Steve - the SNE district is having it's annual meeting on 15 Feb. We'll discuss this at the meeting and see where we go. Since Larchmont and Newport NOOD is no more, we'll need to fill in the hole!

Bill - Presto is one of the RYC boats which would be interested.

A regatta/rendezvous would be an interesting event ... I think we have fewer racers in the J30 world than cruisers, and something other than a WL test may be attractive.

Just my two cents. I think if you are going to convince boats to travel a considerable distance for one design racing, the courses should conform to the current standard for all one design sailing events, which is a windward leeward course. Distance racing (especially in an inshore environment like Narragansett Bay) heavily favors boats with extensive local knowledge.

Cruising Narragansett Bay around the Regatta!!!

I have a mooring in the Kickemuit River that I can make available for any J30 sailer who wants to visit Narragansett Bay. The "Kicky" is just off of Mt. Hope Bay. It is one of the real undiscovered treasures of RI. To get a view of it, go to Google World and type in Smith St, Bristol, RI. If you follow Smith St. down to the water you'll be about 500 feet from the mooring. It sits in 15-20 feet of water just to the N of Smith St. It is a VERY protected mooring and could easily hold 2-3 rafted J30s.
