Can anyone tell me if the published 29.9' LOA for the J/30 includes the pullpit and rudder, or is it the deck length only? I am trying to figure out if it will fit in my 30 foot slip at the yacht club before buying one, and there are no J/30's local to me to go out and measure.

The 29.9 is deck length. Shilshole used to put us in a 30' slip, but after their remodel they made everybody pay for their (incorrect) version of OA length, which includes pulpit, rudder, and whatever else they can find on the ends. We are about 33' in this system.

I am in a 30' slip but overhang slightly. Personally i would risk manage it and say... "my boat is 30 feet... it is a J/30" and just put it there.
I only get charged for 30' as well.

Thanks for the help. The yacht club here measures every boat and insists outboard hung rudders be positioned for maximum length when measured. Doesn't seem right but what can I do.

You are at NYC? Get in touch with John Tarr at the club (does NYC have an internal contact list?). He is the previous of Natural High and I am pretty sure the slip he was in had plenty of overhang. Who knows what he was paying, but if you can still get it in the slip, that is the important thing.

Thanks Natural High, i will do that. It is whether the club will alow the j30 at a 30 foot finger that I am trying to work out. If I need a longer finger I will have a long wait time for moorage.

For what it's worth, I've been at several 30' slips at RVYC Jericho with no issues. My current slip, however, is along the main walk.
