J/30 Class Association Forums J/30 Forum Racing Tools and Techniques Spinnaker Lines - inside or out

We've been sailing wildcat for 26 years - always with the spin sheets inside the lifelines.
Saw a comment on a thread last week about flying the kite with the sheets inside the lifelines by mistake.
Have I been doning this wrong all these years?

Agree, inside simplifies handling, as you don't need to mess with twings unless you're reaching. That said most J/30s I've seen go outside.

We've done it both ways on Rhapsody but still have the twings on when lines are inside or outside. They are on snatch blocks so can come off easy in light air. This weekend when the wind was up it was good to twing in sheet and guy. I think I prefer inside now.

Going to start going inside... bent a stanchion really bad a month ago with them outside

always surprises me to see twings twanged against the stanchions on some J/30 who are trying to reach. I know that on one J/30 the owner actually bent the midship stanchions 10 degrees toward center to help.

We always put the spinnaker lines out of all, and we use barbers haulers. We did the same with our former Fun23 and we did the same on our friends's J24.
I will takes pictures next time.

Do you guys have any pictures for routing the sheets/guy? We bent a stanchion last week. Put the Tweakers on this week but figuring the routing and racing at the same time is a pain.

Once I went inside I've never gone back outside
Route same as outside. Just inside lifelines
Connect sheets together around forestay and take ends of spin sheets to aft blocks like always. Tweaked to gunnel same as outside but in.

I've done both but inside is best much better lead when reaching. twings are needed to keep the sheets off the shrounds and for control in a big breeze
