Hi all,
I just bought #189 and am looking for a main to replace the one that probably came with the boat. I found a J29 main that still might be for sale. Just wondering if there are any potential issues. I think mine has slugs in the mast and a bolt rope in the boom. Has anybody else used a J29 main on a 30?

I have. It must have had a short hoist though because the J29FR main has a larger hoist than the J/30 by 6 inches or so I believe.

J/30 P = 38' (distance between bands at top of mast and goose neck)
J/29 Masthead P = 38.8'
J/29 Fractional P = 35'
J/30 E = 13' (distance between bands on the boom)
J/29 Masthead E = 12'
J/29 Fractional E = 13'
Masthead luff will be too long, foot too short. Fractional luff will be too short though the foot is just right

Jeff - depending how soon you want a main, you may want to wait for the off season as some people will probably sell J/30 sails. It is very likely I will sell my J/30 race main if I decide buy a new one for the NAs next July. I'm just starting to get quotes from sail makers now.

The main I was looking at was from a masthead, so sounds like I should wait to see what folks want to sell after the nationals.
