J/30 Class Association Forums J/30 Forum The Boat, Sails and Equipment Alternator Question

I have a 1979 w/ the 2QM engine. The alternator seems to have been bad since I bought the boat last year.
I had the alternator rebuilt and the regulator replaced this spring.
Hooked it up and still no charge going to the batteries.
I took the panel off last night to look for a loose wire or something easy, and I noticed fresh tape with a note on it that said "Buzzer Used to be Here".
Is there any chance that there is some type of "loop" that the missing buzzer has broken that is causing my alternator to not "excite"??
We do not show any output power coming off the back of the alternator at all...
Any ideas??

Some have a 30 amp fuse taped in the wire harness near the alternator. That could be a problem. Try doing resistance checks with everything off to make sure the connections are good between the end points in the schematic. The schematics are posted on the diesel engine section in the Yanmar manuals we posted.

I found that when they disconnected the buzzer they had cut the excite wire behind the panel.
I jumped a test wire from the cut orange wire to the purple wire behind the key and somewhat shockingly I suddenly had 14.2 volts on the panel and 13.2 at the battery.
Hopefully, that fixes it properly. I'll just rewire and do better connections and call it fixed!
