Hull #291 again! Does anyone have photos of the SS handrails that they have installed on their cabin top? Also, did you just completely remove the interior handles fill and paint? Also where can I get a new boot for the hand bilge located in the port cockpit locker...mine tore last fall?

Thanks,
Jay

My pump is a Whale 8MKIII. West Marine has a maintenance kit for this pump that has valve flappers and bellows.

If you decide to put your wooden handrailings back on, long #10 machine screws can be alittle hard to find. Jamestown Distributors 800/423-0030 carries 5" #10-24 18-8 SS machine screws. They also sell long boards for fairing hulls.

A beutifull pair of stainless rails are going on mine this weekend from www.rileymarine.com. I opted for 1" rails with 1 1/2" washers that bolt from the inside. Decided my interi0r rails weren't salvageable. Plan to use hex bolts, fender washers and a long ash backing strip (for looks) on the inside. Don't forget to overdrill and fill thos holes in the deck with epoxy! Expect photos next week.

Mark,

Could you snap a few digital photos (if you have a camera) for me? I'm trying to sell the SS to my fiance who loves the wood. Even a color copy of a paper photo would be great. My e-mail is zweierbsen@earthlink.net

Thanks,
Jay

Twister (#469) has never had the inside cabintop handrails. The guy I bought it from was pretty tall, and had them removed as soon as he got the boat. I'd like to get the SS handrails for the outside, and then refinish and move the teak ones to the inside (being much shorter myself). How are the two rails (inside and outside) mounted with just one screw at each base?

I'm looking at Stainless Handrails for the outside too.

But for those people thinking about the removal of the inside handrails you should consider that J/30 Class rules may require them.

But, even more so, The Offshore Racing Council (ORC) regulations require handrails on the INSIDE of the boat for safety at sea. Most races will require that ORC regulations be met.

It is interesting to note that most modern boats do not have any handrails on the outside because ORC does not require them on the outside. The modern boats still have hand rails on the inside where they are required.
