Has anyone built/used a deck mounted gin pole to step and drop the J30 mast? Looking for dimensions, best attachment point/balance point. Used a crane service in the past.

Bengt Johansen (a former J/30 owner) and John MacArthur as mentioned above both have done this. They helped me step my rig as well. I can't remember exactly how it was set up-but it was surprisingly easy. The gin pole was a cut down J/24 mast I think.

I sent a personal message. I've had a busy week. I'm hauling tomorrow and will take some pictures. WE did step Steve's mast a few years ago and made him buy all the beer that evening!
