Ive got a Frac J 29 and was wondering if anybody knew the color of white they used on the J 29 and J 30's? I need to do some seahood repainting and need to find the color hoping I can find it in Interlux Perfection.
An old post at this link indicates that it would be impossible to replicate the original color that would have faded by now. When I previously had my J/30 and did repairs I had to get white gelcoat custom mixed to color match a sample. Some of the old guys who worked at TPI and freelanced were able to do it on site with a very good color match.
My boat hasn't been in the water since 1990, original owner bought it new sailing it till 90, then storage. It supposedly has been inside for allot of those years but the gel coat was pretty chalky but no gouges in the hull and in very nice condition. The deck had some gouges in it and I wanted to get rid of the vent on the bow and the solar vent on the stern and there was some peculiar round holes like they had done a core sample then filled it with a plug. I've owned a few J 29s and wanted an inboard so now we have one. I've also re done the deck on one of my J 29's and owned a J 24 for a few years. I redid the decks with Kiwi Grip and have gotten factory like results. All I want to paint is the white trim around the non skid of the sea-hood that covers the main hatch. My options are find a match or just do the whole thin with Kiwi Grip.
