J/30 Class Association Forums J/30 Forum The Boat, Sails and Equipment Spreader Bar/Halyards/Mast Electrical Wires

I have nearly completed the rewiring of the mast and was trying to sort out which side of the spreader bar the halyards and the wiring should go on. Does it make a difference? Looking at the bar it looks like the halyards had been on the aft side based on the polishing of the bar, but is that the best way? It seems like whichever side you put the halyards the electrical wires should be on the opposite side to keep from chafing.

Ok what I am thinking to do is put it back together the way I think it was most recently with the halyards aft of the bar and I will put the electrical cables forward of the bar. Clearly the halyards had been rubbing over this bar and I think I will just help them out a bit by filing the edges a bit and rounding the surface over to keep chafing to a minimum.

Now if it would stop raining here I could do something more interesting like finish the hull work........................
