Can anyone find a reason why this wouldn't work on a J30. I don't care about one design or resale.

Have you looked at the Dutchman system? I don't know if any J-30's are set up that way, but I've sailed on a couple of boats with it and it is pretty slick. Probably more spendy than the lazyjacks though.

The Dutchman is nice, but it looks too busy with all the monofilament. The only upside is the sail and battens won't get caught up with the Dutchman system when hoisting. With the lazyjack system pictured in the original post, I don't have to have the jacks up when I hoist. I suppose they could catch when dropping the main but a couple of well placed bungie cords should keep them spread enough. Biggest factor is that I could make the Lazyjacks for around $100.
