I'm going to replace the jib and main halyards, but I'm looking for sugestions. Should they be all rope, or rope with wire, or what?

Last spring I replaced the genoa and main halyards with Warpspeed. The cover was stripped similar to that of the old wire/rope halyards. I found that they worked well, decreased weight aloft (weighed last than half of the old halyards) and ran much more smoothly through the sheaves. Only drawback was mucho $$$$.

I used the new StaSet X Plus (5/16). It has a parallel technora core and a polyester cover. The stuff is so light weight that I didnt see a need to strip the cover off. Its not as hightech as the warpspeed but it is a good alternative for the money.

I replaced mine (which were 3/8 old something or other) with 1/4 tech 12 with a cover spliced on the tail. It's overkill, but I got the tech 12 very cheep on e-bay. It's lighter than what was there and "set it and forget it." No stretch, creep, or anything. Noticeably different than the old stuff that was in there.
