J/30 Class Association Forums J/30 Forum The Boat, Sails and Equipment mast head kite

Curious to know if anyone has tried a mast head kite on the J30? i am contemplating it on my boat #121.

I know of a J/29 Fractional that has a 7/8+ fractional kite. It does very well PHRF with this config and a 108 rating:

Might try Ginch in Annapolis if you can find him. Owner called me one day a couple years ago to ask if it would be OK under class rules to add a masthead sheave. It didn't really matter since Ginch already had a modified keel (deeper) so wasn't racing in class anyway.

I recently saw a J/30 with an extendable carbon bow sprit and 7/8 spin halyard. It was unconventional, but certainly interesting.

That J/30 with the bow sprit also had roller furling in the picture. Makes it a J/105 with the creature comforts of a J/30 at a fraction of the cost! Real sailors fly symmetrical kites anyway :-)
