Why so big on the primaries? Am I missing something? Going from a 25 to a 44 seems like a huge jump in size.

The power ratios are pretty close between the 25 and 44. The numbering schemes used by Barient and Lewmar are quite different.

Dennis is right. You can not go by the Barient Model numbers. We kept the power ratio's and weight of the new winch as close as possible to the old Barient winches.

One of my Barient primaries bought the farm this weekend ( and a jib halyard )and I'm replacing it with Harken 42.2 non self tailing. I was 25' up the mast in the chair when it failed! No blood on the deck. Riggingonly quoted $ 937 and Defender was $841. Riggingonly price matched.

Check PrideMarine.com who lists the Harken 42.2 @ CDN$1,019.99. At current exchange rates that's US$778.62.
I have no personal experience with pride marine but have read positive comments on the web.

Do you still have the old Barient 27 w/ self-tailers? I need a couple of parts as well as a stainless steel top plate for a Barient 21.

I have a new Barient 27ST that I purchased several years ago to use for spare parts. Unfortunately, the unit was a later model and not interchangeable with my OE's. It is the chrome plated unit and I know where another new unit (a mate) is. If you are interested, I am asking $300 for mine including freight (in Continental USA). Send me an e-mail (bobbycox@acornstamping.com) and let me know. Bob Cox, RICOCHET #89
