I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem and how they have solved it.

Often after a good rain my quarter berths are soaked. The water has come in one of two ways, I am guessing.

1. Leaking under the sill of the companion way and running down to each side and dripping on the berths.
2. Over the rain-gutter on the sea hood and down the inside of the bulk-head and onto the berths.

I have noticed that there is signs of water down the side of the teak grab rails on each side of the companion way, this is why I am guessing some may be coming from the rain gutter.

Any ideas?

You can also look at the area where the pushpit is attached and any other deck hardware.

It is unlikely it is coming from deck hardware. I re-bedded them all last year. What do you mean by a pushpit?

On Rhapsody, we found leakage coming from where the stanchion bases were bolted through the deck. Required pulling the bolts out, cleaning and recaulking both under the SS flange and a bead around the edge of the stanchion flanges.

My traveler leaked at the bolts... just reistalled with the new harken...no more leaks

Ditto the Redhead-our traveler leaked pretty badly at the thru bolts too.

Thanks for the suggestions but I also replace the traveler two years ago. It is coming from the companion way area. Either under the sill or over the boards.

I read this one with interest because I have the same problem. I rebedded everything too. I'm going to close everything up, lay on the berth and and let a crewmember spray the deck down with a garden hose until I can find the leak.

I had this problem as well. I believe part of it came from the side portlights. Even though they are forward of the quarterberths, water dripping due to a bad seal along the lower edge of the portlight would run along the bottom inner edge of the cabin liner aft, and where it hits the corner it drips.

I also had the same issue but I replaced them last year so that does not seem to be the issue.

I have done a bit more investigating and it seems some of the water is coming from the screws that are holding the companionway sill in place. They are about an inch back from the edge of the sill directly above the engine. I suspect that there is a void under the sill that is letting this water in. However that does not explain why the inner part of the interior vertical teak peices of the companion way are showing water damage from the top running all the way down to the sill?
