how many quarts VC 17 should I order to repaint the boat over the winter. ??

Spray or roller? Is this a freshwater boat? You would use VC Offshore for salt water.

I was forced by my boat yard to roll even though I setup a spray booth around my boat to protect everyone else around.

I found last year that I was able to use 1QT of VC17 Red for an entire rolled coat. The secret was the temperature when it was applied. Around 63 degrees.

If you do end up spraying an air system is better than a air-less. However you can use the air-less....air system can spray finer coats.

Additionally after the three coats I burnished the bottom with a newspaper. Just to take down any high spots.

wow 1 quart ???? I remember that I used 3 quarts on my 24 foo0t boat ( rolled )

temp was around 50 inside a warehouse

( same temp and warehouse the J will stay ovber winter )

I think that VC-17 isn't wildly different from Baltoplate, in terms of coverage. With cool, no n windy weather, (both a must) I can easily get two coats of baltoplate rolled onto the boat from a gallon and have a measurable amount left over. (Close to enough for a third coat, I expect) Prep is your friend, if you roll, and you want to find very dense, smooth foam rollers, roll quickly, but carefully, and expect to go through a fair number of rollers. (I don't recommend anything with a nap on it, hard, slightly absorbant foam seems the way to go) Home Despot sells some nice "trim" rollers, about six inches across, about 1 inch diameter, which work pretty well for this.

I get a gallon of VC Offshore every year. I spray it on with an airless sprayer. This usually gets me about 3 times around with maybe a little more on the foils. I leave a little left over for under the jackstands and the bottom of the keel. I then wetsand down to 600 grit.

I just got two coats on Foghorn with three cans of VC17 on a windy day last spring. Two should do inside. I use a yellow West System roller, same one year after year.

I second what Mark says.

Outdoor rolling, using a West Systems foam roller:

2 cans VC17 = 1 coat
3 cans VC17 = 2 coats

In both cases, there's enough in the last can for the yard to paint under the cradle pads.
