What is the IRC rating on our boat ?

Portsmouth, R.I. (March 15, 2004) - In response to requests from race

organizers and some competitors in the U.S., the US Sailing Offshore Office

will assume responsibility for processing data and distributing IRC

certificates for U.S. flagged vessels. Seahorse Rating Limited will provide

the ratings. ISAF recently recognized IRC as an International Rating System.

Individuals and organizers interested in obtaining further information

should contact the US Sailing Offshore Office at 401-683-0800 or

offshore@ussailing.org.

JUDICIOUS has a 2004 IRC rating of 0.924

This is a time multiplication factor - NOT time on distance that you guys use in PHRF.

I race (among others) the following types of boats, that you may know.
J29 (fract rig i/b engine) rating 0.942 (or 65 seconds an hour).
X332 rating 0.990 (or 238 seconds an hour).
X362 rating 1.029 (or 378 seconds an hour).
Sigma 33 rating 0.927 (or 11 seconds per hour).
First class 8 0.916 (we give it 29 seconds per hour)

We have had 2 firsts and one second so far this season so I guess the rating is OK.

Thanks John. If I understand correctly, if you sailed a course in our hour, you'd need to be within 64 seconds of the J/29 in order to win. Regardless of the distance.
